Terms of Use

Effective July 6, 2026

1. Acceptance of these terms

By downloading, installing, or using Finolio ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don't agree, don't use the App. We may ask you to re-accept these terms in-app if we make a material change — see Section 14.

2. License grant

Subject to these terms and any applicable App Store terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Finolio on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, reverse-engineer, resell, sublicense, or redistribute the App except as permitted by Apple's standard End User License Agreement (which also governs your use, per the App Store Terms of Service).

3. Finolio Pro subscription

Finolio's core features — expense tracking, budgets, savings goals, auto-import, on-device AI, and bring-your-own-key cloud AI — are free to use. Finolio Pro is an optional auto-renewable subscription that unlocks Finolio's server-hosted cloud AI features: cloud receipt scanning ("Smart Scan") and the Coach's deep-analysis answers, routed through Finolio's own server-side AI proxy so you don't need to supply your own API key. Free features remain available whether or not you subscribe.

Pricing and billing. Finolio Pro is offered on weekly (US$1.99), monthly (US$4.99), and annual (US$39.99) plans, or the local-currency equivalent shown on the App Store at the time of purchase. Prices may vary by region and are subject to change; any change to your renewal price will be handled in accordance with Apple's rules, which generally require your consent before a price increase takes effect. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.

Auto-renewal. Your subscription automatically renews for the same period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. Subscriptions renew until cancelled.

Managing and cancelling. You manage and cancel your subscription yourself through your Apple Account settings (Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on iOS, or the App Store on macOS), not through Finolio. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Pro access through the end of the period you've already paid for. We cannot cancel or refund a subscription on your behalf.

Refunds. All purchases are processed by Apple, and refunds are handled solely by Apple under the App Store terms — we do not receive your payment details and cannot issue refunds directly. Refund requests are made through Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com). Except where required by law, unused portions of a subscription period are non-refundable.

Free trials and offer codes. Any free trial or promotional offer code we make available is redeemed through the App Store and is subject to Apple's terms and to any additional conditions we state alongside the offer. If a subscription includes a free trial, any unused portion of the trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription, where applicable. Offers may be limited to new subscribers, are non-transferable, and cannot be exchanged for cash.

Bring your own key, no subscription needed. Pro is a convenience, not a gate on cloud AI. You can instead use cloud AI at any time — for free from us — by adding your own third-party API key (currently Anthropic or xAI) in Settings, as described in Section 9. In that mode your requests go directly from your device to that provider under your own account, and you pay that provider (if anything) rather than us.

Apple's standard EULA applies. Unless we have entered a separate written license with you, your use of the App and any subscription is also governed by Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/), which is incorporated here by reference. Where these terms and Apple's standard EULA conflict as to subscription billing, renewal, or refunds, Apple's terms and the App Store's rules control.

4. Not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice

Finolio is not a financial adviser. Finolio Coach, Money Brief, forecasts, projections, "safe to spend" figures, and any other guidance the App produces are general budgeting information derived entirely from data you entered or imported yourself. They are not professional financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and are not a substitute for consulting a licensed professional. Nothing in the App is an offer or solicitation to buy or sell any security, product, or service. Any spending targets, overspend warnings, or "on pace to…" projections are estimates based on your recent history — actual results will differ, sometimes significantly. You are solely responsible for your own financial decisions.

5. AI-generated content may be inaccurate

Finolio uses AI to help with things like reading a receipt ("Smart Scan"), suggesting a category, and answering questions in Finolio Coach. Depending on your settings, this runs on-device (Apple Intelligence), through Finolio's server-side AI proxy if you subscribe to Finolio Pro, or through a third-party provider (Anthropic or xAI) if you supply your own key. AI output can be wrong, incomplete, or misleading — it may misread an amount, invent a merchant name, or answer a question incorrectly. Always review AI-extracted or AI-generated content before relying on it or saving it. You are responsible for verifying anything the App's AI features produce before you act on it.

6. Acceptable use of the AI features

The AI features — including Finolio Pro's server-hosted cloud AI — are provided to help you understand your own personal finances. You agree not to use them to: (a) submit content that isn't your own financial or receipt data, or that you don't have the right to submit; (b) attempt to jailbreak, reverse-engineer, extract prompts from, or otherwise misuse the underlying AI models or our proxy; (c) generate unlawful, harmful, deceptive, or abusive content; (d) resell, redistribute, or provide the AI features to third parties, or use them to build a competing service; or (e) place automated, bulk, or excessive load on our AI proxy beyond ordinary personal use. We apply reasonable per-subscription rate limits and may throttle, suspend, or terminate access to the cloud AI proxy if usage is abusive, exceeds fair-use limits, or violates these terms or the underlying provider's usage policies. Requests you send through the proxy are also subject to Anthropic's usage policies, since Anthropic processes them on our behalf.

7. Imported data may contain errors

Auto-Import features — bank-alert email parsing (including the optional Email Forwarding relay), Gmail alert parsing, and CSV statement import — use pattern matching and heuristics to turn unstructured text into structured expense records. This process can misparse an amount, merchant, date, or duplicate a transaction. Always verify imported amounts against your actual bank or card statements before treating them as authoritative, especially for anything that matters (taxes, disputes, budgeting decisions with real consequences).

8. The email-relay service is provided as-is

The optional Email Forwarding feature routes your bank's alert emails through a relay we operate on Cloudflare's infrastructure (described in detail in our Privacy Policy). This relay is provided "as is" and "as available," with no uptime or delivery guarantee. Emails may be delayed, dropped, or misparsed; the relay may be unavailable due to maintenance, an upstream outage, or any other reason. Do not rely on the relay as your sole record-keeping method — your bank's own statements remain the authoritative record of your transactions.

9. Bring-your-own AI key

If you choose to enter your own API key (currently Anthropic or xAI) for cloud-based AI features, you are responsible for: (a) complying with that provider's own terms of service and usage policies; (b) any charges billed to your account by that provider; and (c) keeping your key secure. We store your key only in your device's Keychain and never see or transmit it to our own servers. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, cost, or content of any third-party AI provider's service.

10. Third-party services

Finolio integrates with, or can be configured to use, several third-party services, each governed by its own terms and privacy policy: Apple's App Store and StoreKit (subscription billing), FinanceKit and iCloud/CloudKit (data sync, Apple Card), Google's Gmail API (optional bank-alert parsing), Anthropic (which powers both Finolio Pro's cloud AI proxy and, optionally, your own-key path) and xAI (optional cloud AI under your own key), and Cloudflare (hosting for our AI proxy, the optional email relay, and this website). We are not responsible for the acts, omissions, availability, or policies of these third parties.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY DATA, CALCULATION, FORECAST, OR AI OUTPUT WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE.

12. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL FINOLIO, ITS OPERATOR, OR ITS SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE APP, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) FIFTY US DOLLARS (US$50). Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Finolio and its operator from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the App, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. For material changes, we will require you to re-accept the updated terms in-app before you can continue using Finolio — you'll see this the next time you open the app after a qualifying update. Continued use after accepting a change means you agree to the updated terms.

15. Termination

You may stop using Finolio at any time by deleting the app, and cancel Finolio Pro through your Apple Account as described in Section 3. We may suspend or terminate your ability to use any server-side feature (such as the cloud AI proxy or the Email Forwarding relay) at any time, for any reason, including if we reasonably believe you have violated these terms; if we terminate your access to a paid feature other than for cause, any refund is handled by Apple under the App Store terms. Sections 4–13 survive termination.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the App will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in New York, USA, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
